Disney on Ice Presents: Road Trip AdventureHampton Coliseum: Through 11/3.I didn’t know I liked Disney on Ice shows so much, until I became a Nana with five adorable (of course) grandchildren. Note of apology to my own two children, who are now very grown up, I wish I had taken you to a Disney on Ice show when you were kids. I didn’t know they were so much fun! What is there to say about this new version of the venerated Disney on Ice franchise? After all, Disney has been touring the country on very sharp blades since 1981, when it was called Walt Disney’s World on Ice. It’s a slippery subject. If you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all, right?Nope, not true.
Exciting twists and turns await as Mickey, Minnie embark on a wild ride to your favorite Disney destinations. From the rooftops of London, travel to the sun-soaked Motunui, set off to the Pride Lands and play at a larger-than-life carnival with Woody and Forky in Mickey’s Road Trip Adventures. Get ready to hit the road with Mickey and his famous friends for an outrageous journey to all your favorite Disney Destinations and favorite.
First of all, professional skating has only gotten better throughout the years. You know that if you’ve been watching the Winter Olympics and the pros on TV. Disney on Ice is full of professional, award-winning skaters. Their skating is beautiful and athletic. The most powerful skating performance of this show is grown-up Simba and Nala skating together to Can You Feel The Love Tonight.
It was beautiful.Somehow, through the 30 plus years, Disney on Ice keeps upping the skating, upping the stunts, and upping the excitement. If you’ve been to a Disney on Ice show, even in the past year, I guarantee this one will be different. It begins with bouncy Taylor and Patrick, two charmers who warm up the audience, get everyone dancing and take audience photos that show up on the jumbotron. Taylor and Patrick are taking us all on a road trip through many of the most famous Disney movies. The Coliseum darkens and down comes Mary Poppins from somewhere high above.
There was a collective gasp, and it didn’t just come from those under eight.I took my granddaughter Alice and her BFF Lizzy. They are a little too old to dress up as Disney princesses, but they still loved the show. Road Trip Adventures takes the audience on a “tour” of many of the iconic Disney movies. Moana is gliding along the ice in the South Seas. Simba takes a journey through Africa. Aladdin and Jasmine are in a mysterious, far off land. Woody, Buzz, Forky and The Incredibles have fun numbers too.The lighting and video screens make it magical.
There is a giant, circular video screen that spirals downward from the ceiling that is used to great effect, especially in the spectacular Aladdin numbers. Alice and Lizzy loved the colorful costumes, the aerial acrobats that did unbelievable stunts hanging from orange silks and the giant camel that looked like it was made from thousands of flowers. Did I mention that Jasmine flies through the air with the greatest of ease?
Alice called her a “human boomerang”.Lizzy’s favorite part was The Lion King. The skaters use the giant puppet-with-human-inside costumes that were so great in The Lion King on Broadway. Picture a graceful pink flamingo or a giraffe gliding along the ice.Everyone sings along to the iconic Disney songs, because everyone knows the words. It’s a little like going to rock concerts in my younger years. Kids and parents singing together make a joyful noise. Even the silver haired guy I live with was singing along to Hakuna Matata.
Everyone sings Let It Go while Elsa skates gracefully and human snowflakes dance in rings high above the ice.If you can spring for it, I would highly recommend buying tickets in the Extra Magic Zone. These are the best seats in the house, down close to the ice and in the middle of the rink. Alice’s favorite part of the night was when a cute Disney person picked her to ride on the ice as part of The Incredibles number. There was fire on the ice, there were super heroes trying to stop the vehicle, there was Alice in the middle of the ring, waving to the fans.
This was one of the perks of the Extra Magic Zone.Take your kids, take your grandkids, take your grandparents, take your partner, you will have fun. You will have live, not on a screen, good, clean family fun at Disney On Ice Presents Road Trip Adventure at Hampton Coliseum.
Disney on Ice Road Trip Adventures is making its way across the country with pitstops in a town near you! Here are 6 tips to help make your Disney on Ice exploration the best day ever.
This post is written in partnership with Feld Entertainment. I was given (4) free tickets in exchange for my review. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
6 Disney on Ice tips
We are lucky to live close to Disney World, but that hasn’t always been the case. In the past, we’d use Disney on Ice events to get a little bit of Disney magic in our home town. Now, it’s become a yearly tradition that even my angsty tween looks forward to.
And Disney on Ice Road Trip Adventures couldn’t have been a better theme for our family. Road trips have been a way of life for our military family. Moving cross country twice along with other long-distance moves, we’ve learned to love the adventures.
1. Buy the best tickets you can afford
Don’t think just because you can’t afford the top-tiered tickets means it’s not worth it. The ice rink is large and the cast uses the whole rink. With that in mind, almost all seats in the venue have a good view of the ice rink.
So buy those tickets! You won’t be disappointed.
2. Make sure to dress warmly
I know it’s hard to think about dressing in jeans and a sweater, especially if you live in a tropical climate (Ah Florida), but trust me it’s cold in the venue.
3. Know what you can and can not bring into the venue
Always check beforehand to see what you can and can’t bring in. Every event is different and each one makes their own rules on what they allow in the venue.
You’d hate to have to drag the kids back to the car to drop off your camera or selfie stick if they aren’t allowed in.
4. Buy some “souvenirs” before the event
Let’s be honest – your kids are going to be bugging for souvenirs. And they can be spendy. So, I suggest bringing a few glow toys from the Dollar Tree with you. Or pick up a Disney stuffy and surprise them with it in the car.
We didn’t do this and even at 12 years old, my son was asking for something from the souvenir stand. And I caved. hard. We walked away spending over $80 because they got me with the Pua and Hei Hei stuffed animals. So, don’t be me – unless, you’re good with it.
5. Plan parking ahead of time
I have massive anxiety when it comes to driving. And trying to find parking the day of the event without set directions will set my anxiety off.
So I always research and double-check parking before heading out. Plus, you want to be prepared if they only take cash.
6. Arrive early
Arriving early lets you find your seat, take a bathroom break and get settled before the show begins. This is always a bonus for our family.
Besides, it gives you time to locate parking without fear of missing any part of the show!

My review of Disney on Ice Road Trip Adventures
Disney on Ice continues to knock it out of the park with Road Trip Adventures. Many families can relate to the theme and that makes the funny antics along the “road” that much more funny. Kids and parents alike were laughing throughout the show. And you know the parents were thinking “I’ve been there”. Because I know I was!
Disney on Ice Road Trip Adventures has scenes from some of Disney’s newest films including the live-action Aladdin, The Lion King and Mary Poppins Returns. You’ll help Woody and Buzz find their missing friend and watch Moana set out on her grand adventure.
We were laughing, singing and even shed a few tears throughout the show. And none of us were ready for it to be over.
Check out the upcoming shows and get your tickets TODAY! You won’t regret it.
